For some years now, EDP has set the national standard in environmental management, as well as in the implementation and promotion of good practices in the area of stakeholder relations.

The UN proclaimed 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity and EDP is not only taking part in this initiative, but is one of the official sponsors of the programme in Portugal. Biodiversity is the main focus of a number of initiatives currently under way.

EDP supports the practice of sport as a means of improving the quality of life of both its employees and society as a whole, as well as encouraging people of different generations to come together in their free time.
EDP supports a number of sports on a national level, motivating people from all walks of life to take part. Examples include: the 25 de Abril Bridge and Vasco da Gama Bridge marathons, the City of Porto Festivities Run, the Women’s Run (supporting causes such as the “Portuguese League against Cancer – Breast Cancer Tracking Units”) and the Cycling Tour of Portugal.
