The offer of energy solutions appropriate to the various markets we serve entails the simultaneous response to a set of challenges, which include:
> market liberalisation in the context of increasingly globalised, competitive and regulated economies;
> growing worldwide demand for energy and the consequent need for innovation and optimised management of resources;
> tougher demands by society, within its sphere of influence, as regards the social and environmental management of companies;
> the need to reduce the ecological footprint of the activity and cooperation in fighting climate change and the loss of the planet’s biodiversity;
> the need to strengthen the confidence of stakeholders in companies’ corporate governance systems.
In compliance with publicly disclosed commitments, the answer to these challenges is based on a set of corporate and sectoral policies, embodied in the EDP Code of Ethics and the following Sustainable Development Principles:
These Sustainable Development Principles of the EDP Group were approved by the Executive Board of Directors at its meeting of 31 May 2011 and they replace those that were in force since 1 March 2004.
