Electricity Supply

EDP is the largest unregulated seller in Portugal and is among the top five sellers in Spain.

EDP operates in Portugal through EDP Comercial, while in Spain our electricity supply service can be obtained either from HC Energía or Naturgas, which offers to its customers an integrated portfolio of gas and electricity products.

EDP's supply activity focuses on providing quality of service, obtaining the best energy purchase conditions for its customers and improving its energy efficiency. It offers the following services:

> Maintenance and assistance services, to make the most of electrical equipments and systems;

> Services aimed at electricity quality to guarantee availability and reliability;

> Specialised technical services to reduce energy bills;

> Energy efficiency services to optimise energy consumption.
 

Last Resource Supply

In Portugal, EDP supplies electricity to customers who choose to stay in the regulated market through EDP Serviço Universal. The electricity needed to ensure the supply of these clients is acquires in the market or to special regime producers (as the last resource supplier, EDP Serviço Universal is obliged to purchase electricity generated under the Portuguese special regime).

In 2010, the volume of electricity supplied by EDP Serviço Universal, which counted with a portfolio of 5.8 million clients, totaled 33.4 TWh.

In Spain, EDP supplies electricity to customers who choose to stay in the regulated market through HC Energía. In 2010, the volume of electricity supplied to customers in the regulated market totalled 1,099 GWh.

Liberalised Supply

In Portugal, EDP Comercial is market leader in the liberalized electricity market. The company’s leadership position is driven by its strategy, which is focused on 3 business units: companies and institutions (B2B business unit), other targets residential and small business customers (B2C business unit) and finally value added Energy Services business unit. In 2010, the volume of electricity supplied to clients in the liberalized market totaled 8,794 GWh.

In spain, EDP supplies electricity in the liberalized market though HC Energía and Naturgas comercialización, having supplied 20,342 GWh in 2019 to clients in the liberalized market.
