Codes of ethics are also a management tool for establishing and articulating organisation's corporate values, responsibilities, obligations, ethical challenges and the way in which it operates.
They also serve as a guide for employees' conduct, facilitating their decision when in doubt as to what action to take or when under pressure to make or implement decisions.
EDP's Code of Ethics, which is annexed to this chapter, establishes principles of conduct for:
> Compliance with legislation
> Transparency, honesty and integrity
> Work environment
> Development of the Group's human capital
> Human rights
> Non-discrimination and equal opportunities
> Bribery and corruption
> Private transactions within the company
> Shareholder relations
> Relations with customers and suppliers
> The environment and the promotion of sustainability
The EDP Group's Code of Ethics also lays down the company's values in business management and defines the behavioural principles and values expected from employees and suppliers.
The Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee and the Ethics Committee both play an important role in ethics and conduct, as mentioned in Chapter III.3.x and Chapter V.2 of the Organisation Manual.
