Biodiversity for EDP

Reducing biodiversity loss, resulting from human activity, is one of today’s greatest challenges. In the long term, EDP aims to contribute to an overall positive balance.

EDP adopted a Corporate Biodiversity Policy in 2007. We are committed to contributing to reducing reducing biodiversity loss resulting from our activities.

In 2010, EDP published the Group’s first Biodiversity Report, where we report the impact of our activities on biodiversity, how we minimize it and if this is not possible, how we compensate it.

International studies identify biodiversity as the most pressing area for intervention, alongside climate change. The loss of biodiversity has accelerated in the last 50 years and the various scenarios studied by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment indicate that this loss will continue, or even speed up.

It is the responsibility of us all to reduce the loss of biodiversity. We believe that we can contribute to this goal and for this reason we have defined an internal strategy to be implemented through a series of action plans that are being reported periodically, as shown in the 2010 Biodiversity Report.
